John William Waterhouse was born on 6 April 1849, death on 10 February 1917, was an English painter known for working first in the Academic style and for then embracing the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood's style and subject matter. His artworks were known for their depictions of women from both ancient Greek mythology and Arthurian legend. The John William Waterhouse Paintings will never be forgotten, and he is truly one of the few artists whose notoriety grew while he was still alive. Throughout the entirety of his life, he continued painting, and eventually died on February 10th, 1917 after suffering from a disease that eventually took his life on this fateful day.
